Kick start your Diwali celebration in an eco-friendly way. One of India’s grandest festivals, Diwali is celebrated with great enthusiasm. Earthen lamps are lit up in every home as it brings in positivity and prosperity.
It usually signifies the triumph of light over darkness, good over evil, and hope over despair. However, the burning of crackers have put a great strain on environment and people’s health.
Air pollution has escalated to dangerous level. Moreover, elderly people and animals suffer from anxiety attacks.
It’s time we celebrate Diwali responsibly. Here are a few ways to ensure a smokeless, noiseless and safe Diwali
1. Crack it thoughtfully
It’s really hard to give up all the fun as Diwali is incomplete without crackers. But, firecrackers leave the city hazy, noisy and littered. It is definitely wise to celebrate Diwali cracker free. For those who cannot give up bursting crackers, you can somehow curb it. You can opt for
eco-friendly crackers that are made from recycled paper. Therefore, to reduce noise pollution go for those with decibel limits set by
Central Pollution Control Board.
2. Go earthy
Instead of candles and electric Diya, biodegradable diyas are the best for your eco-friendly Diwali. Wheat dough, orange peels, coconut shells and seashells are some great options. If you wish to reduce electric consumption, then opt for LED lights.
3. Green Gifts
During Diwali, exchanging gifts is a gesture to spread the love. As you are celebrating eco-friendly Diwali, go for green Diwali, i.e. gifting a plant. The plants you can include kitchen herbs, feng shui plants, air purifying plants, bonsai, terrariums make great eco-conscious gifts. The jute bags, khadi clothes are also other options. Instead of packing them with shiny plastic wraps. Wrap them around with newspapers. After all, gifting anything that supports the green cause is always special!
