Republic Day acknowledges the day when India’s constitution came into force on 26 January 1950. Since then every year Indians celebrate the day with full pride and dignity.
The main Republic Day celebration is held in the national capital, New Delhi, at the Rajpath. On this day, ceremonious parade take place to grace the route from Rajpath to New Delhi.
This year also India celebrates the Republic day with much pride. This year the chief guest at the prestigious event was South African President Cyril Ramaphosa. The celebration started with the President Ram Nath Kovind’s unfurling of the National Flag with a 21-gun salute in the background.

Theme of Republic Day: Life of Gandhi
This year the theme of the 70th Republic Day parade was the ‘life of Gandhi’. It is a tribute to the father of the nation Mahatma Gandhi on his 150th birth Anniversary. In the ceremony, 22 tableaus showcased the Mahatma Gandhi theme.
Women power was on full display. For the first time, any woman had led the Army service corps. Lt. Bhavana Kasturi lead a contingent of 144 male personnel. Not only this, an all-woman Assam Rifles contingent created history by participating in the parade, which was led by Major Khushboo Kanwar.
For the first time, four former Indian Army soldiers – Parmanand, Lalit Ram, Hira Singh and Bhagmal, all aged over 90 years, participated in this Republic Day parade. INA was an armed force formed by Indian nationalist Rash Behari Bose in 1942 in Southeast during World War II.
The Republic Day parade ended with the spectacular flypast by the Indian Air Force.
