After a long wait, Pakistan finally released Indian Air Force Pilot Abhinandan Varthaman through Wagah border on Friday. He was under Pakistan captivation for almost 60 hours. However, after India put pressure on Pakistan to release him safely, the brave air warrior was then handed over to Indian authorities on Friday evening.
Indian Air Force pilot Abhinandan Varthaman was wearing a civilian clothes – a dark jacket and khakhi trousers. The real hero walked proudly toward the gates that separated Pakistan from his homeland.
Pakistan Foreign Office describes Abhinandan as a Prisoner of War
Pakistan Prime Minister, Imran Khan, on Thursday announced that as a peace gesture, the IAF pilot will be sending back to India on Friday. Nevertheless, after giving so many time of releasing him, they eventually released him at 9: 10 PM Friday.
After the pilot’s release, the Pakistan Foreign Office described him as a Prisoner of War.
“While in captivity, he was treated with dignity and in line with international law,” said Pakistan’s Foreign Office.

When media asked officials what Abhinandan told them after he returned, the official said he first smiled and remarked, “I am happy to be back to my country”.
Indian officials then took him to Delhi for medical check-ups. He will undergo debriefing Saturday which will include his physiological as well as a physical check-up in the presence of officials from the military and Intelligence agencies.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has welcomed Wing Commander Abhinandan back to the country. In a tweet, Mr Modi said that the nation is proud of his exemplary courage and the country’s armed forces are an inspiration for 130 crore Indians.
