Real Madrid defeated Getafe 3-1 on Saturday with strikes from Gareth Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo. Bale scored one while Ronaldo strikes twice. With this win, Real Madrid is now 12 points behind the top-seeded Barcelona. This match can be considered as a warm-up match for next week’s Champions League game at Paris St Germain.
300 for Ronaldo
Bale opened the account for Real Madrid in the 24th minute from inside the area, while Ronaldo scored in the injury time of the first half after a through ball from Karim Benzema. This was his 300th La Liga goal.
Ronaldo scored his 16th league goal of the season by heading in a cross from Marcelo in the 78th minute to regain the two-goal lead after Francisco Portillo scored from the penalty spot for Getafe. Loic Remy, former Chelsea forward was sent off just two minutes in the second half for a second yellow card after hitting Real defender Nacho Fernandez in the face.
Bale Overtook David Beckham
Bale became the British player with the most appearances in La Liga playing his 117th game for Real Madrid after David Beckham. Bale could have added one more beautiful moment for him in this game but he missed a clear chance in injury time after being played in by a stunning pass by Marco Asensio.
Real Madrid is third in the points table on 54 points after 27 games. Barcelona is at the top of the table with 66 points. Barcelona will host Atletico Madrid in a top-of-the-table clash on Sunday. Real won five consecutive games in all competitions but had to face a defeat against Espanyol on Tuesday. The coach said it was important that his side came back to the winning track ahead of their trip to Paris for the second leg of their last -16 tie.
“We had the PSG game in our heads and perhaps that’s why we eased up a bit in the second half and had a few difficulties but once they went down to 10 men it was easier for us,” Zidane told reporters.
“With a game like Tuesday’s coming up it was very important to be in a good mood for the next three days as when you lose you’re in a bad way, so it was very important for us to win.”
