Pakistan’s opening batsman Fakhar Zaman creates history as he becomes the fastest batsman (in terms of the number of matches played) to reach 1000 run mark. He takes 18 innings to achieve this feat.
Going into the 5th ODI of the Pakistan tour of Zimbabwe, the 28-year old needed 20 runs to go past 1000 runs. He created the record quite comfortably as he scored a brilliant 85 runs in the innings. While achieving this feat, Fakhar Zaman broke the record of 5 other batsmen who reached the landmark in 21 innings. These 5 batsmen were West Indies’ Sir Vivian Richards, England’s Kevin Petersen and Jonathan Trott, South Africa’s Quinton D’Cock and Pakistan’s Babam Azam. India’s Virat Kohli took 24 innings to reach 1000 run mark in ODI.
Pakistan won the match against Zimbabwe and completed the bilateral series 5-0. Earlier in the series, Fakhar Zaman also became the first batsman from Pakistan to score a double century in ODI. In the process, he also happens to become the 8th batsman in ODI history to score a double century.
The in-form Fakhar Zaman scored 515 runs in the series against Zimbabwe. In fact, this is the second highest run scored by any batsman in a bilateral series. Virat Kohli holds the record to score the highest number of runs in a bilateral series – 558 runs in 6 matches. In addition, Kohli created the record against South Africa in early 2018.
