However, an acclaimed journalist and writer Blake Snow have come up with a new process called digital detox. To share this idea of digital detox he has authored a new book Log Off: How to Stay Connected after Disconnecting. What is a digital detox?
A digital detox is a simple way to take a break from the use of digital equipment and devices. To utilize the time for social interaction and activities one can suspend the use of the digital device. This wonderful technique helps you to relieve stress and anxiety.
Blake struggled drastically to balance his work-life and personal life to draw himself from the internet. Most of our time we are glued to the smartphone busy in checking updates on Facebook, WhatsApp, and Instagram. Blake applied a variety of ways for a digital detox.

Most of the time your smartphone distracts you from what you were doing. The alerts, beeps, buzzes, or notifications of any kind interrupts your life. So, a digital detox is available to avoid such distractions and voicemail for emergencies can help to solve this problem.
Don’t glamorize busyness
Nobody is too busy but nowadays people feel proud of being busy. Blake notes that “being busy” is just an attempt to avoid hard choices about how we live our lives. The Internet which engages you all day makes it easy to be “busy” indefinitely.
So, instead of glamorizing busyness, we must learn to use time more efficiently.
Try using the rule of thirds:
The rule of third is a way to divide your life into thirds- 8 hours for work, 8 hours free, and 8 hours for sleep. Working hard does not make sense rather work smart does. Research shows that working more than 40 hours per week diminishes productivity and for creative workers, more than 20 hours per week does. So, if you feel using a smartphone for 24X7 for better productivity then it is just a waste.
Pull out your phone sparingly:
The phone usually serves the purpose to answer calls, which allow us to keep in touch with friends and family. But often we use our phones to distract, to avoid, or to ignore whatever is happening right in front of us.
Blake suggests, instead of staring at the phone and using as a security blanket we should learn to be present and grateful for the moment. This another way of digital detox.
Periodically, fast from electronics:
Blake says that his family spends an entire week once in the spring and once in the fall without electronic devices. He himself followed the process last year and felt much positive about it. This withdrawal from electronics allows one to connect to oneself and people around.
Therefore, refraining yourself from smartphones, laptops, and tablets is the best way of digital detox. The claimed benefits include lowered anxiety, mindfulness and an overall better appreciation of one’s environment.
In one study, people who have been interviewed, 95% claimed that through digital detox their mood improved after putting down their phones to spend time outside.
They have really transformed from being depressed, stressed, and anxious to more calm and balanced.
So, it is better to outsmart your smartphone and discover your true self and be a better version of yourself.
