1. Sridevi’s death
Sridevi’s untimely death was a shock for the entire nation. It was quite early in the morning on a bright and sunny Sunday of February 25, 2018, that India woke up to hear the tragic news that Bollywood’s most loved superstar Sridevi was no more. She was pronounced dead in Dubai on February 24 2018, at 8 p.m.
2. Salman Khan bail
Bollywood superstar Salman Khan was sentenced to five years in prison on 5th April after he was being convicted for killing two blackbucks in 1998. After spending two nights in a Rajasthan jail, the actor got bail in the poaching case on 7th April. The 52 years old actor’s fans celebrated his bail by bursting firecrackers outside his Mumbai home. However, the superstar will have to seek permission from the court before travelling abroad.
3. #MeToo Movement
The entire nation was in shock when Tanushree Dutta accused Nana Patekar of sexual harassment. She accused Nana Patekar of misbehaving with her verbally and physically while filming a dance number for a 2008 film Horn Ok Pleassss. However, this action revolutionalised the #MeToo movement in the Indian film industry. Many prominent names like actor Alok Nath, Producer Gaurang Doshi, comedian Utsav Chakraborty, Director Vikas Bahl, author Chetan Bhagat, singer Kailash Kher, and many many other names have come in front who are caught in the web of #MeToo allegations. Apart from celebrities from the Bollywood, editors and journalists from the media have also come under the scanner for sexual misconduct.
4. Celebrity weddings
We have witnessed many celebrity weddings this year. Where there were extravagant weddings of celebrities like Sonam Kapoor-Anand Ahuja, Deepika Padukone-Ranveer Singh, Priyanka Chopra-Nick Jonas and Isha Ambani-Anand Piramal, there were also hush-hush marriages like Neha Dhupia-Angad Bedi, Himesh Reshammiya-Sonia Kapoor, and Saina Nehwal-Parupalli Kashyap.
5. Sonali Bendre
On July 4, Bollywood actress Sonali Bendre shock the entire nation with her post on Instagram and Twitter that read she has been diagnosed with metastatic cancer. She was under treatment in New York for six months. However, the 43-year-old actress has returned to India in the first week of December after undergoing treatment for the aggressive cancer. Her husband Goldie Behl told local media that she was “recovering” but would need regular check-ups.
Finally, Netflix is in India. Netflix who was founded by Reed Hastings and Marc Randolph in Scotts Valley, California, in 1997 took more than 20 years to come to India. Its Indian original web series is Sacred games through which it made its debut. It is based on the novel of the same name by Vikram Chandra. Netflix has currently 600 thousand subscribers in India. It is targeting the internet boom in India by planning to reach 100 Million subscribers base in India.
7. Taimur Ali Khan doll
Taimur Ali Khan who is just two years old, but his popularity is unmatched. Now, he has inspired doll-makers in Kerala. Film producer Ashwini Yardi, who has produced films like OMG – Oh My God, took to social media account to share a photo of the new doll in town, Taimur. Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor reacted to the sale of such a toy. Saif is glad people are benefiting from his son, and he only asks God for his safety and happiness in return. On the other hand, Kareena said that Taimur couldn’t run away from his popularity and neither can his parents.
