The 2019 Bharat Ratna the highest civilian award has been conferred to the three eminent personalities from different fields. The recipients of the award are former President Pranab Mukherjee, Nanaji Deshmukh and singer Bhupen Hazarika. Nanaji Deshmukh and singer Bhupen Hazarika were awarded Bharat Ratna posthumously.

The 13th President of India, Pranab Mukharjee served the term of 2012 until 2017. He was a veteran congressman who had held various key portfolios like Finance, Defence and external affair as Union Minister. He worked under Indira Gandhi He is the outstanding statesman of the present time.
Pranab Mukharjee was born in a Bengali family. He did MA degree in Political Science and History and LLB from the University of Calcutta. He also worked in the Vidyanagar College in West Bengal as a professor of Political Science. Moreover, he has served as a journalist in ‘Desher Dak’ begore he entered politics.
Bhupen Hazarika was an eminent playback singer, lyricist, musician, singer, poet and film-maker from Assam. Therefore, people of Assam called him Sudhakantha. He wrote and sang many Assamese songs. Henceforth, he introduced the culture and music of Assam to the mainstream Hindi cinema at the national level.
Nanaji Deshmukh was a social worker who laid great emphasis on education. He established the first Saraswati Shishu Mandir at Gorarkhur in 1950. Moreover, he has also served as general secretary of Bharatiya Janata Party. He was even a member of RSS and took part in Jai Prakash Narayan movement during the Emergency. Further, he served as an elected member of Lok Sabha from Balrampur in 1977. He has also served as a nominated member of Rajya Sabha. Nanaji also received Padma Vibhushan in 1999.
