Tamim Iqbal scores a century as Bangladesh beats West Indies in the 3rd ODI to win the series 2-1. The 3rd and final ODI of the Bangladesh tour of West Indies was played at Warner Park, Basseterre, St Kitts. Bangladesh won the toss and opted to bat first. Riding on Tamim’s 124-ball 103 run innings, Bangladesh scored 301/6 in their allotted 50 overs. When Tamim lost his wicket, the Bangladeshis were 200/4 in 38.5 overs.
But Mahmudullah and skipper Mashrafe Mortaza took the responsibility of accelerating the run-rate in the later stages of their innings. Both Mahmudullah and Mortaza played cameo innings of 67 Not Out (49 balls) and 36 (25 balls). For West Indies, skipper Jason Holder and Ashley Nurse picked up 2 wickets each. In addition, Sheldon Cottrell and Devendra Bishoo picked up 1 wicket each.
Bangladesh bowls disciplined line and length
In reply, West Indies was short of the required run-rate in the run chase. Chris Gayle played a good inning of 66-ball 73 runs but in vain. In the middle overs, the disciplined line and length of the Bangladeshi bowlers never let the West Indies gain any momentum. Shai Hope scored 64 from 94 balls. In the end, Rovman Powell played a blazing inning of 74 (Not Out) runs from just 41 balls. But the hosts ended up scoring 283/6 in 50 overs. Bangladesh won by 18 runs. Tamim Iqbal received the Man of the match and the Man of the Series Awards.
Both the teams will now play in the 3-match T20I series. The series will begin on July 31 at Warner Park, Basseterre, St Kitts. Earlier, West Indies won the 2-match Test series 2-0.
